Oh thats gorgeous. I have a small Black Dragon planted that I got at one of the earlier co-ops here at Daves, and she has a bud on her. I so hope it blooms and is as gorgeous as yours.

Super nice "Black Dragon" Dee. It's always been one of my favorites and I'm sure it's climbing up your favorites list as we speak. Like the way you took the photo with the lobelia flowers in the background. A nice contrast.

Gorgeous! I have a Black Dragon Hib too that I ordered from an earlier DG co-op, but I am still waiting for it to bud. Your pic certainly gives me something to look forward to. Snug, :o)

Thanks! This was a co-op purchase as well...

I really hope my "black Dragon" looks as beautiful and vividly dark as yours does when mien finally decides to bloom, what's the name of the other hib you posted in honor to amorecuore, it is gorgeuose.

Hi Wilfred,

Exact same flower just in different lighting and setting. You know how Jon likes to have other flowers/visual interest in his pictures? I was just using his inspiriation.

My God, I thought they were totally different hibs. just to show you what the lighting and setting of the camera can do, thanks Dee.

Alright Dee. You go girl!!!

beautiful dee, I can't wait!

Wait till you see "Black Dragon" bloom in cooler weather. It's colors really deepen with a very vivid silver streaking in the middle. Its usually a couple day bloom during cooler weather.

Emerald Hills, CA(Zone 9b)

hmmm, your cooler weather, or mine? It's only been in the 60s and 70s here lately...

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

I wish it was here, but we won't see any nighttime lows in the 60's until at least mid to late October.

Emerald Hills, CA(Zone 9b)

Nighttime lows? I'm talking about 60s in the daytime! it is 11:00 and only in the mid 60s right now.

So when I read all about hot temp blooms versus cool weather blooms, what is the cut off temperature that is being referenced? Any idea?

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

I'm trying to think back in time on that question. When you have high temperatures in the 60's and low temperatures between 40-50 is when I really have noticed the difference. Some cultivators have either no or a slight color change and others are very pronounced. You'll immediately notice them when you see them on a plant that you've had for awhile.

Ok thanks. I'll be taking pictures so I guess that will help as well. This has been a much cooler spring/summer than we normally get. I have peaches galore that are trying to ripen but they weren't getting much help from the sun. Thankfully today is SUNNY and in mid 70s now.
