If you live near the water, this tuesday (6/23) will be a very good day to go beachcombing for shells and rocks to decorate your garden. It's going to be at -4.1 a little before noon. That's uncommonly low, so there should be good pickings. I'll be out at Hood Canal taking full advantage! :)
(sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but I couldn't figure out where else to put it.)
Super low tide Tuesday June 23
I'm going to go out and enjoy that low tide too. It will be a welcome break from cleaning up my classroom.
I can't wait- this will be my first beachcombing day this year, and what a way to start! I hope to restock my supply of moon snail shells. :)
Did anybody else get to go play in the low tide? My MIL and I went wading both Tuesday and Wednesday, and wow, did we hit the jackpot. I came home with a big bag full of shells! We also seeded half a mile of beach with marbles to become future beach glass for people to find, in tribute to my friend Ivy. (explanation here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1004508/ )
Wow. That brings tears. Bless her and you. I didn't make it to the beach but it sure would have been nice!!
I'm curious... do the marbles become worn down by the tides?
Yes, the finish wears down so they take on that "beach glass" look.
Cool. :-)
Oh wow! That's too cool!
Yay for big slimy moon snails! They were thick at Hood Canal. We saw lots of the huge red starfish, too. And crabs galore; one little one latched onto my ankle and didn't want to let go- I guess he was tired and wanted a ride. :D
I always see those at the canal, but never knew what they were called. Chitons- must remember that.
Such great photos! I didn't dare take my camera- I know myself too well, I would have ruined it for sure. I always wind up getting wet head to toe because I see stuff in deeper water that I just *have* to investigate. hehe.
I took a 'photograper', my teenage son, so I could mess around and pick things up. I was getting pictures to make a powerpoint to show my first graders what sorts of things to be on the lookout for when we go on a field trip to the beach. We waited until the tide washed up under the rock where the octopus was hiding, hoping to see it swim off, but unfortunately the water was too murky and full of seaweed.
