I've placed my milkweed plants in several locations to experiment and see what areas of the yard are best. What I have are large plants (thick bases) with lots of leggy shoots--some of those shoots have a "crown" of leaves and that's about it. I'm wondering if this is one of those plants that likes to be crowded with buddies--perhaps I've given each one too much space?
I've battled--and beat--the aphids. Is large and leggy with minimal leaves (even during times when few to no cats are present) the norm? Do you guys give them lots of space or plant in close bunches?
Any advice appreciated!
My milkweed: surviving but not thriving (I think)
If what you have is Asclepias curassavica, Mexican milkweed, your plants probably are overgrown, cut those canes back by about one half, give them some compost and water and watch them go to town.
Be sure they get sun and plenty of water.

Put your stems you cut off in the shade. Clip the tops and leaves from the bottom in moist potting soil and and they will root ......later ...new plants! You can't have too many milkweeds.
