Talk About Trunks!

The trunk on this Alocasia sedenii is at least a foot long.
There is another one on the other side at least that long.

I hate the thought of unpotting it. It just seems so oooo happy.

Couldn't tell which was the better pic....

If you decide to separate those (hint: summertime is the best time for that), and you bury that trunk, a lot of new roots will come off it and you'll also get more pups.

I get the hint.

Thanks.

By the way...

How will I ever fit that thing INTO a pot?

It would have to be a cactus bowl.

You can cut it into segments

You can cut it up, but were it me, i wouldn't do it. I'd either angle it, lay it down, or use a tall pot like is used for plants with tap roots. Just be sure it is not a really large pot where the soil media will stay too wet too long. That will not be a good thing in the long term.

If you do make any cuts, make sure you have cinnamon powder handy. Rinse and dry the cut areas before applying the cinnamon powder, too.

What's this about cinnamon powder, "enquiring minds would like to know"? I haven't heard anything about using that on plants before.

I wrote an article about it; here's the link:

We have used cinnamon (just the ordinary kind you get at the market) on orchids for many years. It has natural antifungal and antibacterial properties.

Cinnamon is also a very good thing for people to get into the habit of eating on a daily basis. It contains natural anti-inflammatory properties. Other really good foods to eat are tart cherries, cranberries, pumpkin and blueberries. And pomegranate juice.

Thanks. Some of my aroids have problems with what I feel is a pathogen (fungus/bacteria?) in the soil. I might try the cinnamon and see how they go.
