Variegated seedling as well as branch on mother plant

Wyano, PA(Zone 6a)

Hello!

I recently found a variegated seedling growing under my Rose of Sharon. There is also a variegated branch on the mother plant.

I thought there was only one variety of Rose of Sharon w/ variegation on the market?? Am I right?

My little plant is gorgeous and I sure hope it does well. I'm not sure what to do next. I'm sure it will need dug up and replanted.

I haven't taken a picture of it yet, but I will add it when I do.

Thanks for any info. you can offer on variegated Rose of Sharon!

In a very quick skim through Plant Files I spotted two that had variegated leaves ('Purpureus variegatus' and 'America Irene Scott'). I wouldn't be surprised if there are more too, there were a lot of cultivars in there that didn't have pics, and I'm sure there are some cultivars that aren't in there at all. Unless your original plant was variegated though it's not one of the available variegated cultivars--your variegated branch is a sport and the seedling is just an example of what can happen when you have a hybrid plant that doesn't come true from seed. I'd keep the seedling and try to do some cuttings from the variegated branch and see what you end up with--you may have something really interesting on your hands! Sometimes when you have sports like that the variegation isn't very stable and cuttings will end up reverting to green, but you never know until you try!

There is a sugar candy or sugar plum that is also variegated leaves, with double pastel pink flowers. It's new, I want it!
