my mother in-law has the most beautiful columbines and they seem to bloom forever. mine bloom and finish so quickly. Should i deadhead each individual flower or can i cut the stalk, trim back, and side dress with compost and to get another bloom. How the heck does she still have columbine through the whole season? any of you know the trick?

Let them go to seed. The seed will make new plants and you will have more plants blooming longer. Once they go to seed..then trim the stalks to the base of the plant. Good luck ..they are wonderful!
