i have read piles of info on rooting hoya cuttings. but i am looking for info on taking
cuttings from a "mother" plant. i do not think you should use the young end of a vine,
but how far do you go back? what to look for? after you take cutting?
i have a large H. imperailis and a H. cv. Ruthie i would like to give to friends.
taking cuttings
You can really go back as far as you want. But cut at least 2 nodes so that one node can be buried in the soil (nodes are usually where the roots form from). Cut it right above a set of leaves.
I'm not sure what you mean about what to look for.
As for what you do after the cutting, just keep the cut end in water until you can give it to your friends. Or do you mean that you want to root the cuttings for them? If so, there is tons of info on here about propagation - just do a search...we all have our favorite methods. If you want to mail the cuttings to your friends, what I do is wrap the cut end in a piece of wet paper towel and then wrap the towel with saran wrap. Then I place the cutting in a ziplock baggie and blow a little air into it. Put the cutting/s in a box and use crumbled up newspaper to fill the space and protect the cuttings from damage. I've received lots of cuttings via mail, and everyone has their own method. So that's just one of many!
Good luck,
Gabi
Hey Gary...go past the new growth to a mature leaf and then go one before that just to be safe.
