Very nice pics Burd!! I love the nests they make.

PERTH, Australia

Nice ones, Burd. Great nest

Nice catch...I would love to see one of those nests!!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Great photos!! I love the way this intricately made nest just hangs from a branch. It's amazing the birds get so large before they fledge.

North Augusta, ON

That looks like the same kind of tree my Orioles nested in!! I must admit I had my doubts about the nests durability but it hung in there.
I have a question though...do baby Orioles leave the nest fully flight capable? Mine seem to have left and I'm a bit disappointed, thought I'd see them bumbling around the place for a few days like the Robin babies do...

Every nest Ive seen this year was above water, Marsh type area's. So they may be able to fly within a short time of emerging from the nest. Just a guess on my part.

I have a nest above the water in the marsh too. I watched it being built and mom going in and out, but never did see any babies. (although, I only looked a couple times a day)

Last week I did see an American Finch tearing the nest apart and stealing the material. So, it must not be in use anymore.

Burd, nice shots lucky you,how high up is the nest? I have finally succeeded ,the male oriole is feeding consistantly at the feeder,I see the female once in a while now ,Iam sure she is busy feeding babies,up high somwhere, I hear them all day,i know the nest is close by.1 pic through the screened porch.

Great series...could just be a matter of what material is available in the area.
