Here's the area for my new shade garden.
New shade garden project
Hope you can remove your best plants in time. Removers of anything don't look underneath.
best of luck Jen... I am sure you will make it beautiful
Hubby is soooooo happy to be getting rid of the tree, the double gate to get to the backyard will now be very easy to get to. He's going to put in pavers so he can store a trailer for work and create another parking space.
That's a nice area for a shade garden Jen!
Do you think liriope will do ok just getting morning sun??
That looks like a lovely spot. I wish I had room for another shade garden! It's so fun to start from scratch with a new bed.
Just layed all the newspaper I had to do the lasagna bedding...of course I cheat and don't wait till all the grass is dead. After laying the garden soil I just dig holes thru the paper and start planting..
I need to get to HD and get more soil.
Tree service is coming tomorrow to take down the trees.
New gardens take patience.
I'm glad there are older parts of my gardens to look at while the new gardens settles in and gets going.
The new shade spot looks like a great oppertunity
Will it be shady enough for Soloman's Seal? variegated foliage looks great in shade.
I have those 2 solomon seals from the original garden but they had already died back(because someone weed wacked them), I'm going to have to try and dig around a bit to find the tuber(bulb, whatever)
How large is the new shade garden? It looks like it will be rather substantial in the photos. That's a lot of work!! I hope you'll keep us updated on the progress.
It is pretty big, I didn't measure it but I need to to plan it properly on paper.
I def won't have enough plants to fill the area this year. I can expand it as I get more, I actually want to wrap it around to the front and make a sunny bed too.
You can see the stump where we took out the first bradford pear...
It looks like it will be huge! And don't worry about not having enough plants, 'cause in a few years the ones you have will be beautifully established and full.
Tree guys didn't show up today, I called at 3 to see if they were still coming he said he was still stuck at his other site... I drove by it didn't see any tree guys there.....hmmmmm ya think he was fibbing?
hate that Jen... so sorry
They were probably out fishing.
Yeah, and it's pouring today so they probably aren't coming.
One spot threw me off a little I hit a root( too large to cut thru) so I couldn't balance it out on one side, oh well.
I have 7 more plants to plant in first row, put in edging and finishing touches
Nice, Jen! I assume that spruce (?) in the back is staying? It does provide a nice background for something variegated and a bit taller. JM is certainly possible. Also, eleutherococcus.
Oh yeah, spruce, pine, whatever it is, is def staying. The one planted all the way in the back is a clethra, then the annabelle and oak leaf hydrangeas down the sides.
Remember this is a budget garden, the only $ spent was on the soil and the gas $ to get to the swaps, lol
Just throwing out ideas for the future! ^_^
Yeah, thanks for your "help"
looks great jen!
I agree - looks great.
"No problem", Jen. ^_^
looking good Jen!!
Looks great Jen!
Thanks, all.
