Just had my first bloom on this one - a gift from another DGer. I was happy when I saw it opening (top), but the next day it was fully open and wow! Lasted about three days.

:-) Glad to share. The funny thing is, this plant had a horrible case of scale. I had just 'scrubbed' it down with insecticidal soap and this beauty popped up!

When plants get stressed out it some times throw blooms because the plant wants to reproduce. Very pretty blooms!

Thanks, Jan. That's a good point. I'm treating all the plants again this weekend to make sure I got it all. I thought it was sun damage at first, but realized too late what it was - I'd never seen scale before. :-(

Jan: what you said about plants stressing out and blooming in order to reproduce is a great example of the old saw "blooming itself to death." In fact, plants do sometimes die after being very productive because they have completed there life cycle or feel that they have. This is seen yearly in the blooming of annuals in our gardens. bob
