Best little bird house in Georgia

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

That's what DH calls the coop he built for my chicks this week. He started on Monday and they moved in tonight. I'm posting a lot of pics in this thread showing coop progress. It is basically done, just needs painted its final color (to be determined.) It is 4 x 6 including the nest boxes. It has 2 windows, a door for maintenance and a chicken door. 1st pic is of the bare framework.

Thanks grow. Moving it was a real challenge, but DS and DH got it done with minimal cussing.

DH just said he needs a John Deere tractor so he can move it wherever I want. And I'm actually considering it!

Beclu I love it!!! What a wonderful tractor looks like a chicken mansion (better not let my chickens see this or i will have a mutiny on my hands)
I may have to come up your way and see that in person LOL

that is great !!! i m sooo jealous of your carpentry skills. wow.
Harmony i think your right , my chickens will go on strike if they see that fancy flooring LOL
great job you did .

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

You're welcome to come anytime Harmony. I'm not sure how often it will be moved. The run will be more portable and I just may move it and leave the coop where it is.

Thanks Taynors. DH is the carpenter. That garage door behind the coop in the pictures leads to his workshop (30x38 ft.) He took a week off from building my new kitchen cabinets to do the coop.

Superb!!! Not only is he a great carpenter, but also a skilled diplomat. (I'll move it when ever and where ever with that new tractor darling.) I must speak with that man. LOL Great job. Haystack

"my chickens will go on strike if they see that fancy flooring LOL "

Too funny! I have the same flooring in my new Chicken Palace. It's now under shavings, but they are trying to scratch it up, anyway....

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

I put in a 4 inch layer of straw and so far they haven't scratched down to the flooring. This morning when I went out to check on them, they were all on the roost and looked at me like "What do you want, we're resting, leave us alone." Its sure nice to have the bigger feeder and waterer. I don't have to worry about them running out.

Fantastic thread! Amazing coop! Congratulations! Cracked me up about them giving you "the look" LOL I'm happy for you.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Wonderful coop. What a great DH (and DS) you have. I say yeah on the John Deere!

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks ZZ and Gwendalou. They aren't giving me "the look" this afternoon. Its 90 degrees in the coop and they all have their beaks open. I can't let them out, no run yet. And they do run away very fast. I put a fan in there and am giving fresh water every few hours. I'm sure they will survive, but I worry. The coop will be shaded again in about an hour.

(Zone 7b)

Beclu a little helpful info on the heat a good way too cool down your coop is to periodically spray the top down with cool water from the hose.
Just use your hose end and let it fall down on the top like a cooling rain would do.
When it gets up to 100 i have a sprinkler on a tall pole it will reach all my coops and cages i turn it on and let it run 30 minutes at a time.
It gets real hot here around 2 to 5 in the afternoon and that when i use mine
I haven't used it yet this year all my coops and pens are under large oak trees but by end of july i suspect i will be.

Dacula, GA(Zone 7b)

Thanks Harmony. Looks like I'll need to do that this week with it going up to 95. So glad the watering restrictions have been lessened. Still odd/even days. But I guess I could say I was watering food... LOL.

(Zone 7b)

Your Welcome :o)

Ha Ha Yea you could say you are just watering your food LOL
