P. foetida var. gossypifolia

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I started 4 passiflora from seed this year .. here is the list:

Passiflora aurantia
Passiflora subpeltata
Passiflora foetida var. gossypifolia
Passiflora alata

Since my picture was identified as P. foetida, I'm thinking that this has to be the gossypifolia. There are no pictures of the flower in Plant Files.

Here are some picture of the flower .. can someone confirm this?

This is interesting as you can see the individual grains of pollen.

Very nice shots! What color is the fruit? The foetidas are lovely small flowers.

Thanks! I don't know what color the fruit is .. this is my first Passiflora and it hasn't had time to make any fruit. According to plant files it's red. I'd just like to confirm its the gossypifolia so I can add the flower pictures to plant files.

Here is a google search of your flower. You can compare yours with whats shown. A couple of sites have good info.

Thanks, but I already searched google and other sites .. I'm seeing 3 different flower colors for the same name .. being totally inexperienced with passi's I was hoping someone here could tell me.

I found a picture that looks just like mine called Passiflora foetida var. gossypifolia. It's on a Russian site.

I found another picture that does not look like mine, it's pink but called Passiflora foetida var. gossypifolia

As I said before .. I'm new to this plant. Can the same species be different colors or do they have cultivars?

Here is today's offering .. it has some pink on the petals. Is it normal for a single Passiflora to change flower color? I do know with some plants, it takes a few flowers before consistent colors occurs.

Leaf shape varries among foetidas. Post the leaves and tendrils with the flowers.

I have this book and it is fantastic. I think mine came from timber press. Worth the money if you intend to continue growing passiflora.

I can't wait to see some other start blooming! I've hand pollinated both flowers. Do passies breed true to the parent?

We have Passiflora foetida rampant through the countryside here, it's a very invasive weed. But I don't know which variety these are. They do look identical to the one in your photo. Ours have yellow fruit.

The first one I hand pollinated took so I guess I'll have to wait and see what color the fruit turns out to be. Thanks for the info.
