I'm wondering if my alliums are behaving normally, or if they're infected with aster yellows. I have some allium ceruleum that appeared to open normally, but then a couple of the seedheads developed the "crazy hair" look of allium schubertii. One has now produced a second spherical bloom off of the original seedhead. (Sorry, I should have gotten a picture before it got too dark.) ANyone heard of aster yellows affecting alliums?
Pat
Are alliums susceptible to aster yellows?
Hi Pat,
I have no clue what Aster yellows are, but I don't think your Allium caeruleums are sick.
Look at this picture in PF, it shows what you're describing..
Actually I have one myself blooming now that makes the same funny offset flower cluster on top..:)

Bonitin,
Your picture looks much like the one in my yard--- if it would only stop raining I would go & get a picture!
Aster yellows is a disease carried by leafhoppers. Here's a link with some pictures:

Pat, the picture in the PF link isn't mine, I haven't taken a picture yet of mine because of the same reason, it doesn't stop raining here too, lol!
Thanks for the link, now I know what Aster yellows mean! :)
