As part of Rose Festival there is a plant and flower display in Pioneer Courthouse Square. When it is over the plants are put up for sale at serious bargain prices. This year the display is on until the 16th and the sale is on Wednesday the 17th starting at 8 am. They go fast. There may be more information out there. I am in no way connected with this but can attest from past experience that if you want bargain plants this is the place to go. Mostly flowers and my memory is that it is mostly annuals, but since it is an artistic installation you might find some surprises.
Portland area opportunity
thanks for the information, Michael - wished I lived closer.
Thanks Michael - I may just have to investigate! I have been to the Square to have a look but I didn't know the plants were sold at the end. By the way, where are you in Portland?
How was the exhibit this year? I don't think I am going to have a chance to go. I live in Southwest near Multnomah Village.
I thought the Square looked ok, but I'm not that fond of plants all lined up in rigid rows. There are a few Adirondack chairs set out but the area is so neat and tidy that it doesn't feel very comfortable to sit there.
I live on SE 34th a block south of Hawthorne. i love this crazy neighborhood! Multnomah Village is great also.
What a great idea! Display and then sell. I think nurseries would do well to follow that example . . .
