welcome to the site join right in and tell us about yourself!!
Hello everyone and thank you so much for the warm welcome. I signed on with DG to try and find an organic pest solution for my rose bush and then was kind of lost. I lost the thread I started and have not taken much time to try and learn how to navigate the site. I think it will be loads of fun and of course a wealth of information.
About myself, I have always liked to garden but moved to a new (used) home 4 years ago in desperate need of a gardening makeover. It has been fun to get some gardens going but I'm still relatively small scale. I never enjoyed it as much as I do now as I had children to raise and not as much time for gardening. Sound familiar? lol. Now it's what I can focus on to fill some time so it works well. I love learning about gardening and do keep it organic.
Thank you again for the warm welcome.

Do you by chance have the annual invasion of aphids on your roses??? I pretty much get them every year whenever I go away in June for a week.
I pretty much like to use the organic way of getting rid of pests as a first choice, however, if it does not work, then I get out the big guns and use Bayer 3-in-1 Insect, Disease & Mite Control Concentrate.
To get rid of aphids organically, give your plant a good blast of water from your garden hose, they are sorta lazy and won't climb back up on your infected plant. Wait a few minutes, then put this home made tonic on them....
1 lemon or orange peel, coarsely chopped...(I use my blender to chop it up)
1 tablespoon baby shampoo
2 cups of water
Put these ingredients into a blender and blend on high for 15 seconds. Use a coffee filter to strain out the pulp, then pour the liquid into a hand held mist sprayer. Thoroughly spray all of the buds and young stems. You should repeat after 4 days to play it safe that you got them all the first time around...
Happy Gardening!
Deann
