Hello All,
I need your help. Here'a a pic of our plants....with a tall trellis my DH made. The problem is that the leaves are really becoming all curled up...AGH! There are a few bugs that are eating some leaves...but that doesn't seem to curl the leaves. The leaves are also not curling near the base of the plants either. That doesn't seem to make sense either.
I don't use chemicals since this is a wildlife friendly garden for Butterflies and Birds. I personally chase away the local bunny population whenever I see them near these beans...(which would be a Kodak moment for most)...LOL
Anyhoo, can someone please enlighten me as to what is wrong and what I can do?
TIA :)
Scarlett Runner Bean problem...
What to the individual leaves look like? Are there little specks or anything on the underneath sides of the leaves? Are they turning brown? Has your neighbor recently sprayed fungicide?
Can't help with your problem but I just wanted to say that I like your garden set-up! :)
Are you sure you don't have an aphid problem? Aphids have been curling leaves on some of my larger annuals. If you have ants herding aphids you need to get rid of both--I find sprinkling cinnamon on the underside of the leaves and on the ground helpful in the short term.
If it's not aphids are you sure some sort of herbicide didn't blow in from over in the neighbor's yard?
Other than that I'm not well-versed in bean issues--I hope you are able to figure it out. Good luck!
Hi the same thing happened to me only I did it myself. I had sprayed a homemade organic bug killer, cause they were getting eaten by some rotten bug, but I mixed it up to strong and the same things happened. The new leaves are ok so I just picked off the dead leaves. Good luck and I wont do that again. LOL
had a lot of rain up there lately? looks like its pretty wet, beans like good drainage
Susan - hi from a fellow Lincolnite
Did you use any of the city compost (LinGro) in your plot? And do you bean leaves look like the ones pictured here? If both are "yes", it could be clopyralid damage.
