Weed(?) identification

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

Does anyone know what this is? They come up all over my yard. The little thing near the top of the roots is about the size of a peanut.

I really don't know, but it looks like a live oak seedling.

I'll agree, it appears to be a volunteer oak. I get them and they drive me nuts. Easier to uproot when the soil is moist from a rain.

We just mow over them in our yard! LOL

Interesting. We don't have any live oaks in our yard, but there is one across the street. Seems that the neighborhood squirrels have been quite busy. I even have these things popping up in the back yard!

I guess the little "peanut" is really just the remains of the acorn?

Thanks everyone!
Dennis
