I would love to hear from people who are growing (or want to grow Scented Geraniums).
I would like some ideas regarding how you use your plants and are you selling or trading these lovely plants.
I have some 25 or more different varieties and am at a point where I need to decide what I want to do with them. I would love to hear some suggestions if you have them.
Thanking you in advance. JB
Pelargorium 'Scented Geraniums'
Oh JB - I'm sure you'll have plenty of folks that would love to trade...try posting on Mid Atlantic too...hugs!!!
Chantell, I am not sure what they trade, cuttings????? I will check it out later. Just curious about other uses too. Thanks I will check out the other list. JB
I've sent out little starter plants (rooted in 2 inch pots, removed pots and wrapped up rootballs), and I've also sent out cuttings... DeBaggio says they root better after being in a plastic bag overnight after cutting, so I figure a couple of days in the mail doesn't hurt unrooted cuttings a bit! I blow a little (moist) air into the bag with the cuttings just like I do if I don't stick them right away here, and that seems to keep them crisp.
Most of mine are in 10-12" pots, which aren't all that easy to overwinter, in terms of space... I should probably start taking cuttings at the end of summer so I can overwinter new starts in smaller pots instead. I have to say, though, that the whole house smells wonderful on watering day when I've been brushing against all the foliage!
I love my SGs. :-)
My SGs are a mess. A month of rain, then hot, they look like crap. I am about to pitch all of them. What a disappointment. I am sure some of it is my fault for putting them out when I did, but they were absolutely beautiful for weeks and then, overnight they started to fail and I had changed nothing but the weather. JB
That was my experience, too, except for a couple JB. Jill's got the "touch" - I don't think I do.....
Mine don't look fabulous right now either, but they just need to be pruned hard and pampered a bit with regular watering. they got pretty leggy over the winter, and I haven't brought them quite back under control LOL. They still smell great, though!
Yes the fragrances are rather yummy!!
Chantell, I know I do not have the touch. I gave them all to the girl that works for me. I had given her some a few weeks ago and she said they are beautuful, so she left here today with all but a few babies I did manage to grow. LOL Now as the for gardenias, I found a way to root them and I am so excited. When the blooms on the Tree get a few days old, I cut the stem and bring them in and put them in a vase. When the flowers are all dried up, I take them off and take the stems and put them in a plain glass jar with fresh water every couple of days. In a few days, I have little roots starting and when they get about an inch, I plant them in the coconut medium. They are growing like little weeds. YIPPEE
They are in theGH on the afternoon sun side and they get water daily.JB
Ahhh YOU rock!!! Rooting Gardenias!!!!
