Goes to seed so quickly here. I thought I might let it go and save seed. I wonder how long to wait before trying to harvest the plants, then how to dry them. (And how long before we actually get any dry weather here.)
Spinach going to seed- saving it?
I get volunteer spinach by just letting it go to seed, rototilling the whole plant under in the fall, and they sprout when they are happy in the spring. By the time I need to use the space we have eaten a lot of it. Admittedly, it doesn't look nice and neat. So, if you want to save the seeds I don't know what to tell you as far as time goes, but this just shows what is possible with very little effort, (aka neglect!) Probably if you can shake some seeds loose, you could harvest them, just make sure they are dry before you store them. I do lettuce the same way, but I also plant some new lettuce on the other side of the garden which will be left to go to seed for self seeding the next year. Beets will also reseed the same way but they take an extra year.
