How Many Flushes of Bloom on Brugs?

Carlinville, IL(Zone 5b)

My cuttings from last fall gave me two glorious bursts of bloom - they are on the second now and are so root bound that I think after this one I'm taking cuttings and hunkering down for the winter here in Central Illinois. I put the foot tall or so plants outside around the beginning of May.

What's typical for a season? This year mine seem to really produce those distinct flushes and then waited about 5 weeks after the first finished to open for the 2nd.

Cindy, that's about right for mine. Though mine bloom all winter, they are in a greenhouse, so every couple of months the gal that has the greenhouse is able to look at all my gorgeous blooms. Mine bloomed the end of June, a real heavy bloom, one plant had approx. 80 flowers at once. They are just finishing up another flush now. It sure smells good out there! :>)

Yes, it smells fabulous on my deck here, too especially in the evening - just amazing to walk out to. I have three plants that range from about 5-6'. It's remarkable how they GROW in one season isn't it?

Cindy,
Mine all seem to have different amounts of flushes per year. Alot has to do with how old the Brugmansia is, ie does it have to come back from the roots each year, how many forks does it have, etc. So far, The Butterfly is my most prolific bloomer and Isabella my most frequent bloomer. Hoping the seeds created between them will share some of those characteristics.
