Sprouting Broccoli

Biggs, KY(Zone 6a)

Anybody know anything about sprouting broccoli? I planted heading broccoli and it did very well. All finished now. The sprouting broccoli plants look great but no shoots.

Here are the plants.

I have grown the Purple Sprouting and Calabrese, but in the hills of Virginia not here. They take longer than most modern broccoli. Big plants, but after the novelty wore off, I have not bothered with them again.

I think this is calabrese I have. Do you think it may still sprout?

Likely, in southwest Virginia which is a similar climate to Eastern Kentucky, mine went into full sprout mode in August.

It takes, on average, about 60 days til harvest. I'm guessing you will need to wait until July/August. But they look good.

Thanks. I'll spare them the trip to the rabbit cage. He gets all the trimmings. LOL

What's it supposed to sprout into?

Calabrese has a a small central head, but mostly erupts into miultiple side shoots. Purple has a barely ly larger centralhead, then starts its one inches sideshoots which branch smaller afetr the initial ones are cut. Sprouting broccoli is grown for its side shoots. Thought i had a photo of purple sprouting but I can't find it. Anyhow its is plantfiles http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/119240/. Big plant, mine got 4 ft tall and 4 ft in diameter.
