Problem with PP, Excel & Word attachments opening

Tremont, IL(Zone 5b)

We got a new pc last year that has Windows Vista on it. Opening the PP, Excel & Word attachments always worked until the last few weeks. I figure that Microsoft downloaded some updates to the office windows & that it messed up the opening of these attachments. I can right click on the attachment & save it into a file & then go to that file & double click on it & it'll run. When I try to open it in the Windows Mail email that it came in, a box pops up & says "PowerPoint can't read C:/Windows/System32/ITSEEMSIMPOSSIBLE(1).pps. There is a button that says "Show Help>>". When I click on it, it brings up a box that says "The presentation cannot be opened. Your antivirus program may prevent you from opening the presentation. to fix this problem, make sure your antivirus program is current and working correctly. If the problem persists and the presentation is from someone that you trust, turn off your antivirus program, and then try to open the presentation again. If you do this, make sure you turn on your antivirus program again after you open the presentation."

Why it is looking in the Windows/System32/ is beyond me, beings it is an attachment. I looked at the download histroy & Microsoft downloaded updates on 4/29/2009 & 5/17/2009 to Microsoft Office 2007. 4/29 update for PP is KB963669 & KB963665 for Word & KB963678 for Excell.

This has been so frustrating, but I did find the work around by saving them to a file & then opening them. I'm hoping that someone here might know what I can do to fix these so they open when I douple click on them from the email.
