cucumbers and corn

Crestview, FL

My cukes are growing round like golf balls and they are turning yellow, the leafs are too and also brown. My corn has about 10 ears on them that are showing silk; but they look to be skinny so far, should I give them both a boost with the nitrogen fertilizer?

I wouldn't worry about your corn if the leaves are healthy and green. Just make sure they have a steady supply of water. They drink a lot when they are trying to form ears. The ears will get bigger once pollinated. They say 20-25 days after first appearance of silk. Mine are almost ready(day 23 since I saw the first silk). I picked 3 ears that were fine but a little premature. Waiting for the rest, should be within a week to harvest about 20 ears(I hope) :)

Unless they were Lemon Cukes it sounds like they weren't pollinated very well. What kind are they? I had a bunch of malformed cukes last year due to lack of pollination. As far as the leaves go, from my experience cukes and squash always get yellowed on older leaves. I just cut them off. As long as there's healthy new leaves, dying older leaves has never been a problem.

Ray: Thanks, I made my lil sister the guiena pig on the yellow cucumbers and she said they were fine. The cucumber type is national pickling. Funny thing is my rainbow peppers are all purple in color, not but one green one in the bunch. I'm getting loads of peppers and cherry tomatoes and cukes. My bigger tomatoes aren't ripe yet; I did pick a few of the bigger tomatoes that turned red; and no BER on them. I have tons of eggplants coming now; but they aren't but about 4-5 inches long, so aren't ready to pick yet, they are the fairy tale ones.
