Ok, Sheila this is your fault.after seeing your cat nursery, I am going to give this a go! LOL I found this larva which I have never seen before on my fennel this morning. There was only one, I ck. it everyday so I don't know how I missed it. Anyway, I have started a nursery. I have never seen this larva before, can we give him a name?

Ok, an edit to this post....I don't know why but I had a suspicion that the cat was not hosting on the fennel, I put the fennel in the cage and he ignored it. So I went to the garden to see what was planted closest to it and found the yarrow. I put the yarrow in the cage and sure enough he was eating it. Hope that helps with ID.

My fault?? LOL!
Yarrow is a host plant for Painted Ladies, but that is not a PL cat. I think it could be a moth of some sort. Let me keep looking. If you want to look as well, try this link.

Not a clue as to the id on that one.
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/bugid/all/ You might try putting it on the insect identification fourm.

Wiggins, MS

It's a yellow striped armyworm, Datura - it'll make a moth.

My luck the first time I try to raise a cat, its any ugly moth! Oh well it will be good practice for me.

Thanks for the ID

Guess what he got out of the cage and is somewhere in the house. Don't tell the husband!

I'm so glad you posted this. I had one of these last year and could not ID it with my guide. Thanks Miss Sherry!
