teat dip

Upstate, NY(Zone 5a)

I have an empty 55 barrel that had teat dip in it. Do you think it would be okay to convert the barrel into a rain barrel? I'm worried about the teat dip being toxic...

I'm not an expert but I think teat dip is an antiseptic that kills bacteria. I would assume where it's being used in relationship to a human food substance(milk) that it wouldn't be toxic in trace amounts. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
If it were my barrel, I would clean it well w/ a mild detergent, rinse it well and use it. However, it's up to you. What are you using it for?

I want to make a rain barrel out of it.

I mean are you watering gardens, using it to water livestock, ect.

We have several 55 gal. barrels used as rainbarrels, grain storage, for kindling and for making manure tea for our plants. Mainly the rainbarrels are for watering our fruit trees and the garden.
