At first I thought there was a hole in a window screen, but I closed the window and even covered the bottom of my door and they would still be there. I kind of just killed the moths when I saw them, but when I saw a 2 caterpillars crawling around, it really scared me and made me look for the problem. After some googling, I found out that they may be Indian meal moths, so I scoured my room for any food. Lo and behold, there were some old girl scout cookies in one of my drawers and it was completely infested with bugs and eggs! I threw out the food and cleaned everything I could find. Even though I got the rid of the food source, I would still find bugs here and there. I decided to buy some pheromone traps and I caught about 10 in a week, but not much after that. This was right before I moved to my new place. At my new place I thought it was all fine and dandy, but I started finding bugs on some of my clothes! See pictures 1-3. Some would have bugs on them, some would just be webs (that I assume housed a caterpillar until it grew). I put up 3 of those pheromone traps I had and so far after 4 days, I only found 1 bug and it was a baby one (see pic 4). My questions are: 1) Are these indeed Indian meal moths and not something worse? 2) How can I ensure they don't proliferate in my new place? I plan to go through all of my clothes and manually clean off any bugs or webs that still exist. Is this enough? 3) Are there any other methods I can use to ensure they all die? |
