Beginner Gardening: when do I pick this squash?, 1 by HeatherY

I have been battling what looks like fungus with this plant all year,
with the results that That squash is the _only_ one-other blossoms look like
this after they bloomed.

the plant stem looks like the last pictures. It looks like yellow brown, close up,
and has knobs. I tool off all the diseased leaves that were close to the ground
and I have plucked off the mildewed looking leaves each week.
