Hello,

I am a beginner gardener. I love all things green and leafy - both indoors and outdoors.
About a year ago last summer in NJ. I planted a beautiful weeping cherry tree. It looked happy and healthy and went through the normal cycles of fall, spring and summer. I water the tree once in a way if we've had a very dry spell, but honestly with all the rain we've been getting in NJ, I've probably watered my garden about once in the summer.

About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that the bark is peeling on the tree. Please see attached photos. I do not see any sap or goo or anything other than peeling park. There doesn't seem to be any insects and the spot where the bark is peeling seems to be too high for an animal to have used it as a scratching post. The leaves of the tree are healthy with no spots on it.

I'm worried and I'm hoping this is normal. But I can't tell. I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Sara
