Main problem with peas in the south, is that you have to harvest before temps began hold in the upper 90's. It takes a lot of plants for shelling peas, I would not even consider starting and transplanting. I direct sow 1-2 inches deep, 1-2 spacing in double rows 10 inches apart, 24 inches between double rows. That way I don't need any trellis.
