I am certainly no expert on computer matters, but I do have a few comments that hopefully might be helpful. At least, they are meant to be.

First of all, you mentioned that you have 19 inches of viewing area on your monitor. I also have a 19 inch monitor, and I don't have a scroll bar for the new Daves's Garden format, but you do. Why is that? Well, with respect to a computer display we shouldn't be talking in terms of inches. Instead, the relevant dimension is pixels. Displays are composed of pixels, and not inches.

Apparently the new Dave's Garden format has increased their horizontal pixel dimension to 1280 pixels wide. The "old" Dave's Garden was probably 1024 pixels wide, which used to be a common display width. The motive for Dave's Garden's wider pixel dimension was apparently to make room for future advertising, and more future revenue from the website. A lot of websites are still at 1024 pixels wide, and so they still aren't causing problems for people. Incidentally, there are quite a few websites now days that have pixel dimensions wider than 1280 pixels, and they give me a fairly wide scroll bar.

I don't know what the pixel limitations of your 19-inch monitor are, but it could be that you simply have your display adapter set for less than 1280 pixels wide. I have an NVIDIA display adapter, and it has a utility that allows me to choose several settings, including display width, color depth, and scan rate. Like many computers now days, it can also support more than one display, although I have only the Sony 19-inch connected at the present time.

I suggest your open the Control Panel for your display and see if you can select a 1280-wide option. I am attaching a screen capture from my NVIDIA Control Panel to show you the situation on my system.

Elsie, if you have any questions about any of this, I will attempt an answer. No guarantees.
