At the point now where everything and every other thing needs to be replaced at a minimum of $1,000 a pop. When is it time to let go?

Last month engine mounts and new axles.
This week rack and pinion and hoses for power steering.
Earlier in the spring misdiagnosed the deteriorating engine mounts/vibrations for water pump. That did not fix the problem. When I called my long-time VW mechanic he said "you TOLD me to put in a water pump." That's because over the phone that's what it "sounded like".
