Beginner Gardening: Amaryllis, 1 by emptyeyes

The first one is the Paperwhites, they have now started blooming, not crazy about the scent but my hubby likes it, the second is the Amaryllis, it has not gotten a slit in the bud, does that mean what I think it does? My friend next door gave me a Poinsetta for a present going to see how long I can keep it alive and growing. If you get close to the amaryllis bud you can see some red and the veins in the bud itself are pretty, will the bud turn red before it opens or will it just split open all of a sudden? The paperwhites opened slowly but they are still blooming, they look good next to the poinsetta.
