Beginner Gardening: Amaryllis, 1 by emptyeyes

This is one of the paperwhite bulbs that the friend gave me, does this set up look ok? It does not have any roots and i was just wondering how long it would take to grow some, I did not have any stones or rocks to put in the bottom, but it is in there snug and tight. I was thinking it might be a good idea to use the alcohol trick so they don't fall over, providing they grow that big and tall. The water is just touching the basal plate so hopefully in a few days I will see some roots.
