I have about the same climate as you and my pre-formed is about the same size as yours. Last year I used a 1000W thermostatically controlled stock tank heater and it was way over kill. The plants around the pond stayed green when everything else was covered with snow. This year I'm using a small pump with a Kent Turbo Venturi with small air hose to surface to keep the ice open and adds oxygen to the water (pictured). Will save my electric bill some. The fish did like hanging out around the heater though.
