Yes, despite our blazing sun, it is cooler here. We will have 90 or 91 at most this weekend. When the normal summer pattern gets established, the breeze comes in off the Gulf in the afternoons, and often it clouds over in the hottest afternoon hours. Saved by geography! All summer, the evenings are lovely especially out on the beaches with the breeze. Nights are hot, though.

Deb, my brugs are not doing well this year either. They were badly set back by the spider mite invasion while I was away in May, and are just now showing a few blooms. Charles Grimaldi had two flowers that were half the normal size. Cherub has been struggling all spring and has one flower open now. Even the Monster Whites (I have 3 going, 2 in pots) are still pouting. Still no sign of a bud on Damien although he has the healthiest leaves of them all. I am blaming the solar storm we had last month . . . for lack of a better excuse.

How about a picture of Esther's philo?

1. little flowers on Monster White
2. supposed to be royal purple Achimenes - magenta at best in my book!
3. now this is what I call royal purple - vinca from Lowe's in a color I've never seen before
4. shot of the whole plant of Rita's variegated spiral ginger - I potted it up last month and it needs a bigger pot already.
