I used this filter but added a liner sheet from those disposeable puppy training sheets in the top section (with the other 2 filter pads), and put about 3 pairs of pantyhose (laid out flat) in the bottom with the large gravel I use for sinking it. It sure caught a lot of junk, I cleaned it every day for the first few days, and did a couple partial water changes.

Other than that, I do have some plants (but not near having the 3/4 covered--more like 1/4. And just added the pond block stuff the other day, although I read it shouldn't be used with plants?

Now, how do you hide all the plant roots?
