There are intermittent blooms all summer.....but NOTHING like the spring explosion. In the fall, it has some lovely fall color....not like a Maple tree, but nice none the less. Basically it's evergreen.....but some leaves get a burnished look. We do amend the soil from time to time with compost. We have very alkaline soil because of all the limestone here.......so we even use Pinebark mulch to add a bit of acid back into the soil. I don't know if Crossvine will ace out another vine or not.....our neighbor does not plant in his yard, and it is the cut through path for many deer who eat our vine from the other side of the fence...ha ha ha. But there are so many deer here that most things get nibbled on at some time or another if they can reach it. Here is another angle last year. You can see that the downhill side where water runs is lusher. They love sun and water, but once established not too much work. |
