Countrymom, I had that same question. What I learned was any meat that may have garlic or onion should not be used as it can cause anemia in birds. So if you have onion in your pot roast, just pitch it. I cook most meats with onion and garlic, so about the only grease I have is bacon. The woodpeckers like that!

I too have been aching to see a Snowy. I am trying not to get my hopes up too much, but I know in a normal year, it would be next to impossible.

I know this picture should belong in the bad picture thread, but I really like it. I had been taking pics of the Downy woodpecker and had seen the activity of the house sparrows. I wasn't even trying for a shot like this, but the timing of that minor delay was just right. When I looked out the window again, Downy was still there and eating in peace.
