I made some changes to the default settings at Mrs Ed's suggestion and although it's made some improvement, the focus still isn't right. I'm taking it back to the store where I purchased it for the tech guys to look at both the camera and the 400mm lens. Maybe the lens needs calibrating; I don't know. I don't intend to highjack my own thread, but this shot of a Willie Wagtail is so soft. The lens wouldn't lock on and yet distance and lighting were ideal. We'll see.
