Beginner Gardening: Peace lily with brown tips, 1 by kg2943

I recently trimmed it back drastically, thinking it might help to give it a fresh start. It does well at sprouting new shoots, but never blooms and the leaves are already turning black again. It is sitting on the opposite side of the room from an east facing window, that has a sun shade screen over it. I do not have any north or south facing windows in our house. What should I do???
