Garden Pests and Diseases: Pumpkin Vine Rot, 1 by mudbugz

I manually moved the vines around to keep them growing in the box. Just 2 weeks ago I noticed that the vines began to split and began to oose something about the consistency of millett (bird food) or grits if you are familiar with the southern food. It has affected all the vines and now they are pretty much dead. Any idea? I sometimes see a few small black ant running on the vines but it looks more like a disease. Picture is attached...help????
