The bug . . some type of stinkbug, I think. Try a Neem oil spray with a couple of drops of dish soap in it - it's good for preventing fungal disease, as well, and it's non-toxic for the dogs' sake. You can get the Neem concentrate at any nursery, and also at HD or Lowe's.
