That is a cute little oriole, duc. Late summer is the time cardinals molt and bird boards are swamped with inquiries about what is wrong with the cardinals in my yard. :-)

I wrestled with myself for a few days on this bird's ID, going back and forth between a Hammond's or Cordilleran Flycatcher. I first leaned toward Hammond's then toward Cordilleran. Put the bird on the ID forum and resin leans toward Cordilleran, although not 100% sure. This morning, I finally recorded the pair of these birds as Cordillerans on eBird. Either is a life bird for me.

Pic was taken above the town of Red River, NM along the road that follows Red River where the pavement ends. Elevation was 9,000 feet or more There is a wooden bridge and there were lots of insects hatching. This pair was feasting on them. I would have gotten more pics, but right after I saw this pair, two couples with more kids than the law should allow came hiking up the river, shouting, throwing rocks in the water and the flycatchers flew up the mountain.
