Karrie20x wrote: Dan, I've never used a trellis for cukes, but have just done some reading on it and heard it's a great way to save space so the vine goes up. I am doing pickling cukes, and will use them to make pickles. I made this trellis out of stakes and extra large holed chicken wire. (wove the stakes through the holes, then pounded them in the ground). This is a new way for me as well, but since they say it's a great way to do it, I'm giving it a try, as I don't have space for them to trail every which way they would, as they would without having something to climb up. Here is a pic of it (not very good one, as it's new, and cukes are babes, but it might give you an idea.) I have a sunflower with morning glory behind it, that I am hoping will add some color to the porch, up above, that also has pots with Nasturstiams that will droop down. If it ends up the picture I've painted in my mind, I will take a pic in July and share it. |
