I read several websites that cover butterflies and definitely they all indicate a geographically widespread absence of all types of butterflies. The condition certainly exists in my area. For example, last year I had large numbers of Common Buckeyes and their caterpillars were constantly in my Snapdragons and many of them pupated there...this year, I haven't seen a one. Last year I had tons of Monarch butterflies and caterpillars...this year I haven't seen a single adult and have found only one early-star caterpillar. I have only seen a couple of Swallowtails and Hairstreaks. I will share a few of the photos I have been able to catch but, for me, they just haven't been here this year. I sure hope that this is just an aberration.
