My friend who is a police officer was asked to get this bird out of a drain it was stuck in. He said the bird was extremely calm and just hopped onto the rod hey used to pull it up. Once back on the street he said the bird just stood there looking at him (allowing him to get the photograph) before flying off for a few minutes. I have no experience with identifying birds but he is very curious. From the way it acted and the colors, my guess is that it is still in a juvenile stage but it looks pretty big. The beak doesn't look like something of a predatory bird but it is definitely large and thick. Any help would be appreciated!!! Oh and this was in new jersey.
