Citrus needs regular fertilizer applications when the tree is being developed, and much less for maintenance when it is mature and producing fruit. Citrus reacts well to organic fertilizers.

The University of Florida recommends a fertilizer ratio of 2 - 1 - 3 (N - P - K) Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, for Citrus and Palms growing in Florida's organically poor soils.
