I throw them back into the copse of trees behind my house all the time. Now thanks to your post, they'll be thrown into my hosta bed instead for slug prevention. I'll just have to make sure I don't step on any, falling would not be good since I've had 2 spinal fusions. Here's a picture of the shade garden taken today.
