It had been severely neglected (i.e. zero human attention for a very long time). It had overflowed its pot and sort of merged with some nearby plants. We had to cut it out in order to bring it to our yard last year where it has struggled ever since. It's alive, but many of the fronds are brown almost the minute they start to grow. The fronds are not shredding which I've heard is an indication of something. We live in south florida and have very sandy nutrient poor soil. I don't know if this is some kind of nutrient deficiency or a disease or possibly something else??? It's in full sun and the area around it is weeded and mulched. It gets palm fertilizer a few times a year. No sprinkler system, so it's watered maybe once a week only. Any thoughts would be appreciated! I'd love to save this one. |
