Grayum wrote: I live in San Mateo, Northern California. I notice my apples on the tree in the yard had lots of brown fuzzy spots on the outside. I opened one up to find the black-headed white worm/caterpillar inside - see pictures. So what is it, and should I prune off all of the apples that have the beastie inside? (some of them have the fuzz on the outisde but no worm on the inside). What can I do to prevent this? I garden organically so need something to fit in with this ideology. How should I dispose of the apples I prune to make sure the worm doesn't hatch into the insect that causes this? Thanks Graeme |
